We all know that the Philippines’ national hero is Jose Rizal who has an inexplicably long real name. He is known for fighting against the tyrannical reign of the Spaniards while risking his own life for the freedom of everyone. Even though he was prohibited, he wrote the two legendary novels which you still probably encounter in your respective schools – “Noli Me Tangere” and “El Filibusterismo.”
However, people might only know about his looks based on his stereotypical photo. Even those who encounter studying his texts may have only seen a photo or two. So you will all be shocked with the set of pictures that Mugstoria shared. Here are nine rare photos of perhaps the most important Filipino in history and the one person who’s always being talked about.
1. What seems like a teenage photo of the national hero – Famous poet/playwright Antonio Abad shared that Jose Rizal was a Master Mason in Madrid, Spain in 1890. As a matter of fact, he even delivered a lecture entitled “La Masoneria” when he was still in Madrid.
2. 1879 Rizal – The 18-year-old Rizal rocked his “cachupoy” hairstyle! The photo was taken when he was still a student of the University of Santo Tomas.
3. Squad Fencing Goals in Paris – Apparently, when Jose Rizal was still in Europe, he loved fencing with his friends Juan Luna and Valentin Ventura.
4. Fencing with Juan Luna – As mentioned above, the national hero is fond of practicing fencing. Well, trivia about this pic. The two important persons in the history held this pose for a very long time because the antique photographs took a while to develop.
5. Rizal hanging out with friends – People only see Rizal’s prim and proper photos. Who would’ve known that he had got time to chill with his friends? He looked as if he was enjoying having fun talks and discussing important matters over food and drinks.
6. Rizal getting wasted with his friends – This photo is extremely weird. They seem to be really drunk! One of his friends was even lying on the floor while the others looked as if they’re about to give up in their lives.
7. Pepe as a model – Seems like our national hero can also be a good model! Just look at how he rocked his modelling duties for his friend Juan Luna. Maybe he was even included in the paintings of his colleague.
8. Rizal is a cross-dresser? – Can’t seem to find the words to describe this photo. Is our National Hero really cross-dressing? Just, WHAT?!
9. Oops, not ready – This is one rare candid photo of Rizal. Apparently, when the photo was taken, all of them were not even striking their poses. Just look at that guy in the right side! Well, Rizal seemed to be amused as he stared off into who-knows-what. Is this a baptismal photo? That we don’t know.
